Ferrari yet to find fix for problems, Binotto admits

Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto has admitted that the SF90's current failings are unlikely to be fixed any time soon. Regardless, the Scuderia chief has confidence ahead of this week's Canadian Grand Prix as the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve may suit their car.

The 2019 Ferrari engine is the most powerful on the grid, ending Mercedes long dominance in the power stakes through the V6 Hybrid era.

However, the Scuderia's recent ability to put together a strong chassis has seemingly abandoned them this year, with Mercedes far stronger in medium and low-speed corners.

Ferrari have pinpointed a lack of downforce as crucial to their struggles. However, with Mercedes having won all six races so far this year, Binotto's latest revelation may suggest the Silver Arrows' run could continue.

"Thinking of Canada, there are so many memories of past seasons that come to mind," Binotto said. "This track has usually produced some exciting and unexpected racing.

"The long straight and the big braking zone before the chicane that leads onto the start-finish line is the place to overtake and to see some good fights.

"We know we're not competitive enough right now and, for the time being we haven't got any more changes coming on the car that will have a significant effect on the problems we have encountered since the start of the season."

Sebastian Vettel won in Montreal last year, however, and the track's power-hungry nature could play into Ferrari's hands, Binotto hopes.

He added: "The Canadian track characteristics present another different challenge, given that top speed, braking efficiency and traction are the main considerations.

"We arrive here ready to do our best and to put the mistakes of the last few races behind us."
