Lewis Hamilton has shared a clip of him on the skydiving trip he enjoyed just a week before beginning his latest Formula 1 title defence at the Australian Grand Prix. Hamilton appears to have taken regular skydiving trips ahead of the new campaign and says it is his new favourite activity.
As well as skydiving, Hamilton also took to surfing in the winter break – a time of year he often dedicates to extreme sports.
While Mercedes might prefer that their star performer does not throw himself out of aeroplanes, team principal Toto Wolff recently said he was happy to let the five-time world champion follow his passions, given his track record of combining extra-curricular activities with incredible dominance during F1's Hybrid V6 era.
"This is my [favourite] thing to do currently," he wrote. "The reason I sky dive is I love that there are really no limits in free fall.
"It's incredible to just let your mind free, remove all doubt and any insecurities you may be feeling in life and jump.
"I think in life many of us don't take that leap because of fear, something of which holds us back from greatness. You can do anything you put your mind to.
"I was nervous the first time but this has helped me to let go of many things and go for the things I love. Don't let fear dictate your life. You can do anything you put your mind to I truly believe that."
