We might only just be toasting the end of the 2018 Formula 1 season, but next season is already upon us! Pirelli have confirmed the tyre compounds that will be used in the opening four races of next year, using the new colour scheme aimed at reducing confusion for the first time.
Tyres with a white (hard), yellow (medium) and red (soft) sidewall will be used in 2019, with the selection taken from five compounds ranging from C1 (hardest) to C5 (softest).
Still following?
C1 is akin to a 2018 hard compound, with C5 the super-sticky hypersofts. The tyres formerly known as supersoft and superhard (did it ever exist, anyway?) have been banished to the history books.
Teams tested the new and old tyres in Abu Dhabi following the final race of the 2018 season, with Pirelli using data from that two-ay event to determine the compounds that will be used in Australian, Bahrain, China and Azerbiajan.
Some gifts ???? come early. Here are the #Fit4F1 compounds for the #AusGP, #BahrainGP, #ChineseGP and #AzerbaijanGP! (Quick Reminder - In 2019 there will only be 3 colours per race, but 5 different compounds available: C1 is the hardest, C5 the softest) pic.twitter.com/ijoIzO3kqb — Pirelli Motorsport (@pirellisport) December 10, 2018
