Jaime Alguersuari Sr: Alonso 'could have won eight' championships
Former Grand Prix motorcycle racer and Renault World Series promoter Jaime Alguersuari Sr has questioned some of Fernando Alonso's past career choices and believes that if he had not left McLaren in 2007 or Ferrari in 2014 he 'could have won eight titles' instead of the two world championships he currently has.
Fernando Alonso has been part of the McLaren-Honda project since 2015 but his partnership has been plagued by reliability issues from the engines of the Japanese manufacturer. Alonso has been critical of the power and reliability of the engines, and the partnership has now been terminated with McLaren now receiving parts from Renault.

Alonso is considered to be one of the most talented drivers in the history of the sport, but has not claimed a world championship in over a decade and has not even won a Grand prix race since 2013.
Alguersuari Sr has questioned some career decisions from Alonso, as well as the Formula One star's attitude at times.
"He became world champion twice, but with the talent he has and that no one doubts, he could have won eight titles," Jaime Alguersuari, father of the former Toro Rosso driver, told the Barcelona newspaper Diario Ara. "For sure, at some point he thought 'I am formula one'."
"Fernando always did everything his way, and when he was wrong, others were always to blame rather than finding the reasons for the mistake within himself," Alguersuari, the former promoter of the Renault World Series, added. "The question is: Is he going to change? I'm not sure he knows how to,"
Alonso is aiming to become a motorsport 'triple crown' winner which include victories at the Monaco Grand Prix, the Indianapolis 500, and Le Mans.
