Alonso decides on 2019 F1 drive - report
Fernando Alonso will remain in Formula 1 in 2019, according to reports in Marca, although Renault have emerged as a potential destination for the two-time world champion. Alonso has been tipped to switch to IndyCar in 2019 as his 'Triple Crown' bid nears completion.
Alonso is now just an Indianapolis 500 win away from matching the unique feat of Graham Hill, winning Indy, the Le Mans 24 Hours and Monaco Grand Prix.
Although Alonso enjoyed a points-laden start to 2018, following McLaren's switch from Honda to Renault power units, he heads to the Austrian GP having failed to finish the last three races.
Having seen the likes of Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel eclipse the record-breaking feats he looked like securing while winning successive titles with Renault over a decade ago, Alonso desire to be remembered as a motorsport legend has taken his gaze beyond F1.
However, Marca say Alonso's desire not to leave the sport with a whimper could convince him to stay on for one more season, with the ever-improving Renault team a potential destination.
The Spaniard remains undecided on his future, but recently admitted that he is wary of bowing out of F1 in the wrong way.

"I don't know if I will continue in Formula 1. It is a decision that I'll have to make but nothing is decided or planned," he said in an interview with El Partidazo de Cope.
"I have given myself to this every day for 17 years and I know that I've already achieved a lot.
"But I wouldn't like to leave in the end with a bitter taste in my mouth, in the sense the I can no longer give 100 percent.
"I don't know if it will be this year or several years later but when the summer passes, I can contemplate all of the possible steps that may be taken.
"I'll make the best decision for the good of my team and the fans but now, the most important thing is to enjoy things and feel useful and contribute something extra to the car or the team.
"It will be difficult to continue if you lose that, otherwise there are other attractive challenges like the Triple Crown and the Indianapolis 500."
