Perez: Reasons for Red Bull success obvious

Sergio Perez has said he can already see why Red Bull has been "so successful" after recently beginning life with his new team.

Perez joined Red Bull after Racing Point, now Aston Martin, decided to replace the Mexican with four-time champion Sebastian Vettel for the coming season.

Speaking on the Talking Bull podcast, Perez said of his first days with the team: “It has been amazing.

"Obviously, there are a lot of things that we have to go through, a lot of meetings with the engineers. There are a lot of things that are coming but it was a very positive week.

“We have got a lot of work ahead of us but things are getting there and I am really happy.

“I can see why the team has been so successful and I am all switched on for this season.”

Before joining the Formula 1 grid with Sauber in 2011, Perez completed two full seasons of racing in junior category GP2, now Formula 2.

In the first of these years he raced for Arden International, the team founded by Red Bull team principal Christian Horner and his father Garry.

“My first season in GP2, I drove for Christian in his Arden team," he added.

“I didn’t spend much time with Christian, just updates, and he invited me to his house back then which I went to the other day with him, and it’s crazy to think that after 12-13 years, to work again together is something that – I admire Christian a lot.

“First of all, he is a fantastic person to have around you but is also a great team leader and I can see that there are great times ahead of us.”
