Perez pleads for 2021 drive with Red Bull - "I'm willing to do anything"
Sergio Perez has revealed he is "willing to do anything" to land a 2021 drive with Red Bull - including taking a significant pay cut.
Perez is currently in limbo as he awaits a decision at the end of the season from Red Bull on whether it intends to keep faith with Alex Albon for next season.
In a press conference with Mexican media on Monday, attended by GPFans, Perez reiterated his recent claim that it is either Red Bull for '21 or a sabbatical.
In his desire to stay in F1 next season and drive with Red Bull, Perez has made it clear he will do whatever it takes.
Asked whether he was willing to significantly sacrifice his salary or move to Europe if it meant signing for Red Bull for next year, Perez said: "Yes, I’m willing to do anything.
"I want to continue in Formula 1, I want to continue to develop. The two options you mention, I don’t have a problem with either. The second one, I have lived in Europe. It wouldn’t change anything."
Perez confirmed to having thoughts about other categories for next year but has dismissed them given his preference for taking a sabbatical ahead of planned return for 2022, revealing he has F1 options on the table for that season.
"I’ve thought about it [other categories]," said Perez. "And to be honest, right now there is no category that motivates me enough for me to compromise and go to.
"As I said, if it’s not F1 (next year), I want to take that time off for me personally, to see what I want from my professional and personal life. I want to take that time to see what I’m going to do.
"I already have options to return to Formula 1 in 2022, That wouldn’t be a problem. The main thing is that whatever I do, I want to be 100 per cent convinced that I want to do that. As of now, no other category calls my attention."
