Hulkenberg disqualified from Spanish GP qualifying
Hulkenberg disqualified from Spanish GP qualifying
Nico Hulkenberg will start the Spanish Grand Prix from the pit-lane after he was disqualified from the qualifying results after Renault broke parc ferme rules in changing his front wing after he crashed into the wall in the first segment of quali.
Hulkenberg required a change of front wing after skirting through the gravel and shedding carbon fibre.
The German revealed afterwards that he had used Renault's previous spec front wing in the rush to get back out on-track.
In any case, Hulkenberg could only qualify 16th and was eliminated from Q1.
However, he will bring up the rear at the start of the race after stewards investigated the move.
According to the stewards' report, Renault argued that the changed part was of a similar specification to the new one, but it was judged to be a breach of rules nevertheless.
