Vettel sure best is yet to come

Sebastian Vettel has dismissed any notion that he has peaked in his career and is confident that his best is yet to come as he eyes up another title charge with Ferrari in 2019. Formula 1 legend Sir Jackie Stewart was recently quoted as saying the German was past his best after losing out in the title fight to Lewis Hamilton this year.

Vettel's bid for a fifth world title crumbled amid errors made by both driver and his Ferrari team.

Instead it is Hamilton celebrating moving level with the great Juan Manuel Fangio, but Vettel has warned that he cannot be counted out from the fight in the future.

"I think all of us, who are allowed to drive such a car, are very privileged, to fight for victories and podiums is what everyone wants," Vettel told Motorsport-Total.

"Of course I'm disappointed when I finish fourth, but it's better than sitting in a car that you can use to be 15th, and I know I'm in a very lucky position.

"I've had an incredible life already. I've fulfilled my dream of becoming an F1 driver, winning a race, winning a championship - I've done it even more than once.

"I drive for Ferrari and hopefully I'll be a world champion at Ferrari soon. I can't wish for more than that."

Setting his sights to the future, Vettel says taking out another title in Ferrari red could eclipse his many triumphs with Red Bull.

"I often ask myself if this isn't all too much, too much in too little time," he said. "I already have a lot of experience, but I'm someone who always looks ahead.

"I think that my best moment is yet to come. I've won races as a Ferrari driver, but we're not world champions. In that, I still have something to look forward to."
