Hamilton to sign new Mercedes deal next week - report

F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton will finally put an end to speculation about his future by signing a contract extension to remain with Mercedes, with the announcment coming at the French Grand Prix next weekend, according to German publication Auto Motor und Sport.

Discussions over Hamilton's new deal have been ongoing with no agreement yet being reached, with speculation suggesting that the Brit was either unhappy with the amount of money being offered, or the length of the deal on the table.

The lack of clarity over his future has led to rumours that Hamilton could either retire when his current deal expires at the end of this season, or make a sensational move to Ferrari.

But it is thought that all issues have now been resolved, though it remains to be seen how much longer Hamilton has committed to, with the driver already having thoughts on what his post Formula 1 career could look like.

It is thought that Hamilton was holding out for an unprecedented £120m over two years with an option for a third year shoud both parties agree.

We'll have to wait until the French Grand Prix next weekend to see if Hamilton makes his announcement.
