Red Bull and AlphaTauri will still get a new PU in 2021 despite Honda exit
Honda has confirmed it is to introduce a new power unit in 2021 despite its bombshell announcement it is to withdraw from Formula 1 at the end of next season.
The Japanese manufacturer has vowed to its customers, Red Bull and AlphaTauri, that they will remain competitive up until the final race of next year's campaign.
In 31 races since Honda partnered with the two teams, there have been five victories and an additional 15 podiums.
It is determined to leave with more before pursuing its goal of obtaining carbon neutrality by 2050, as well as pushing resources into research and development into the areas of future power unit and energy technologies.
"Racing is in Honda’s DNA, and therefore Honda will continue to be passionate about taking on challenges and striving to become number one in all categories of racing in which Honda participates," said Takahiro Hachigo, the president and CEO of Honda Motor Company Ltd.
"We still have seven more races this season, and we are introducing a new power unit with improved performance for next season.
"In order to fulfil expectations our fans place on Honda, we will work together with Red Bull Racing and Scuderia AlphaTauri to continue competing with our utmost effort and strive for more victories all the way to the end."
