Aston Martin investment talks could affect Red Bull, Racing Point

Aston Martin has confirmed that it is considering investment, which could have potential knock-on effects for both Red Bull and Racing Point on the Formula 1 grid.

Aston signed a deal to become Red Bull's title sponsor in 2017 and has featured in the four-time constructors' champions' team name over the past two F1 seasons.

However, it has been widely reported in recent weeks that Racing Point owner Lawrence Stroll is considering a buy-in of the luxury automobile brand, which could see it return to the F1 grid in terms of a tie-in with the Silverstone-based squad.

Stroll's plans for Racing Point are grand, with a new factory in the works, while getting Aston on-board would bolster the team's reputation further.

It remains to be seen what a potential investment would mean for Aston's tie-in with Red Bull, which has also seen both companies join forces to build the Valkyrie hypercar, which is expected to be entered into the World Endurance Championship when the competition's new class comes into force.

"The company confirms that it is reviewing its funding requirements and various funding options," a statement said.

"It is also engaged in early stage discussions with potential strategic investors in relation to building longer term relationships which may or may not involve an equity investment.

"A further announcement will be made as and when appropriate."

Aston Martin had looked into entering F1 as an engine supplier for the 2021 campaign, but existing teams' successful campaign to freeze the power unit regulations led to that idea being scrapped.
