Honda warn Verstappen power outage could repeat in Singapore
Max Verstappen has been warned that the power outage that interrupted his qualifying at the Italian Grand Prix could return in Singapore this weekend.
Verstappen was due to start at the back of the grid in Monza regardless, having taken an upgraded Honda engine, but he was unable to even set a time in Q1 after suffering a loss of drive.
Honda later revealed that his engine had gone into a safety mode after Verstappen got too much wheelspin when running over a kerb.
Rather than being something built in by Honda, the mechanism is FIA-mandated.
Therefore, Red Bull's engine supplier has little say over whether it happens or not, and cannot rule out a repeat if the circumstances are repeated in Marina Bay.
Honda's F1 technical director Toyoharu Tanabe told Motorsport.com: "It's not easy because the FIA filter activated. We will think about that.
"There is a chance of another one. It's difficult, but we will try to analyse exactly what happened, and if there is any way to prevent that situation."
Verstappen battled through the field to finish eighth in Italy, but will be expected to be back at the sharp end of the grid in Singapore, where ed Bull have been on the podium each year since 2010, including the Dutchman's run to second place a year ago.
