NASCAR Cup Series stars reveal clear-the-air dinner after Chicago wreck

Bubba Wallace and Alex Bowman have spoken out about their first interaction since a controversial wreck last weekend in Chicago.

Bowman revealed this weekend that the No. 23 driver bought him dinner when they met up at Sonoma this week, claiming that the pair are 'good' now.

Wallace, for his part, admitted he made the pair 'look like fools' at the street course when they fought late in the race, revealing that he made a mistake in assuming where Bowman's car would be.

Speaking after the pair's reconciliation, Wallace said: “For some reason, my perfectly working digital mirror wasn’t looked at. I didn’t look there and assumed that he was to my right. He was to my left. I was just getting back up to give him room for the bottom, and he was actually on the top. So I looked like an idiot.”

Wallace: No issues with me and Bowman

Bowman opened up on the pair's meet-up before this weekend's running at Sonoma, revealing: "He bought me dinner on Thursday, which was super nice of him. So, I’m appreciative of that. I think we probably raced a little bit unnecessarily hard in that situation, but we talked, and I think we’re all good.

“The TV feed made it look worse than it really was off of (Turn) 2 there. I certainly didn’t intentionally crash him, and unfortunately, the coverage was pretty rough. We talked about it, and I think we’re good going forward.”

Wallace added: My dinner was paid for, so I just pay it forward. I felt like I made us look like fools last week, and I took the responsibility, so the least I could do was buy him dinner. Bowman and I, I can say truthfully, we’re fine moving forward.”

He also said: “We get to the hotel for dinner two nights ago now, and he’s waiting to get seated right in front of us. I just come up, give a big bear hug and told him again, ‘Hey, we’re good. Nothing’s wrong.’ And so the hotel we’re at, a lot of industry people are there. My dinner was bought by somebody else, so I paid for Bowman’s dinner. It just kind of felt right.”
