Kyle Busch during the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series

NASCAR star Kyle Busch has issued a short message following Sunday's Cup Series race in Chicago.

Busch had a decent qualifying ahead of the Grant Park 165, putting his No. 8 Chevrolet in sixth spot for the green flag on Sunday.

However, early in the race, a spin meant that the two-time champion dropped right down the order, with his race looking ruined.

Busch was able to fight back though, ultimately ending the day in fifth position having fallen down to as low as 25th at one stage, matching his best finish of 2025.

Taking to Instagram post-race, Busch wrote: "Good rebound after going around early,"

"Was ripping that last run n got all the way up to 5th. Thx to the boyz for another solid road course piece."

Kyle Busch back in the hunt for playoffs

With seven races to go in the Cup Series regular season, Busch's fifth-place finish in Chicago has put him right back in the hunt for a playoff spot.

With 12 different race winners so far this year, four drivers can currently point their way into the post-season, and the two-time champion is looking to be one of them.

After Chicago, Busch sits 19th in the playoff standings, just 47 points behind Bubba Wallace in 16th, who occupies the final playoff position at present.

Of course, the Richard Childress Racing star can avoid the stress of the points chase by winning any of the seven races remaining before the playoffs begin, but given that Busch is winless since 2023, it feels like a big ask.

Here is a full look at the current playoff standings.
