Joe Gibbs Racing star Denny Hamlin has criticized the inconsistent officiating in the NASCAR Cup Series following an incident during Sunday's race in Chicago.

Road course expert Shane van Gisbergen once again proved his worth to Trackhouse Racing by taking the victory, but post-race, the discourse was dominated by talk of Joey Logano and Ross Chastain.

The pair came together on track during the race, with Chastain having been squeezed into the barriers in turn one on one restart, and clearly, the No. 1 driver was not happy about it.

At the next corner, Chastain took his revenge, driving into the No. 22 of Logano and spinning him around in what looked like an intentional wreck.

Speaking on this week's Actions Detrimental podcast, Hamlin doesn't believe that Chastain will be penalized, however, slamming NASCAR's decisions as inconsistent.

“I don't think they will [penalize Chastain]," the Joe Gibbs Racing star explained.

"They won't; they don't do that. Unless it's me. Inconsistencies is the only consistency we have.”

Logano certainly feels as though NASCAR should take action against Chastain, airing his thoughts on the matter to the media in Chicago just moments after a heated out-of-car confrontation with his rival.

"He admitted he wrecked me on purpose," Logano explained.

"He admitted it, which means he should get fined if he admittedly wrecked someone on purpose. That’s not okay."

“Typical Ross," the Team Penske star continued. "He just sees red and does dumb stuff. That’s all.

"That’s twice this year on road courses at the end of these things I’ve been cost by Ross. Just over it.”

All eyes will now be on NASCAR's penalty report this week to see if Chastain is indeed penalized.

Earlier this year, NASCAR issued multiple penalties to Austin Cindric after he intentionally wrecked Ty Dillon at the Circuit of the Americas, which fell under the category of 'intentionally wrecking another vehicle' under Sections 4.4 B&D: NASCAR Member Code of Conduct Penalty Options and Guidelines.

On that occasion, Cindric was docked 50 driver points and fined $50,000.
