NASCAR stars Kyle Busch and Denny Hamlin were among the drivers to be hit with penalties during the Grant Park 165 in Chicago.
The Cup Series hit the streets of the city for the third time on Sunday, with road course specialist Shane van Gisbergen once again proving his worth to Trackhouse Racing, taking his second victory of the 2025 season.
However, it was a busy race for NASCAR's officials, with a total of 26 penalties handed out during Sunday's event.
Hamlin was one of the first stars to be punished, sent to the rear pre-race for an engine change after a blowout in practice on Saturday. Nine other drivers were also sent to the rear pre-race for 'unapproved adjustments', including all four Hendrick Motorsports cars of Kyle Larson, Chase Elliott, William Byron, and Alex Bowman.
Elsewhere, Busch was hit with a pass-thru penalty on his way to a P5 finish on lap 38, with the two-time champion punished for 'driving through more than 3 pit boxes'.
Every week, one of the most common infractions during a Cup Series race is 'pitting before pit road is open', with nine stars, including Christopher Bell, guilty of this on Sunday and hit with tail-end penalties as a result.
Other infractions that were penalized during Sunday's race included; 'too many crewmembers in contact with pit service area' (Riley Herbst, Daniel Suarez, Josh Bilicki, Noah Gragson and Ty Dillon) and 'speeding on pit road' (Bell).
