Joey Logano has called for a NASCAR Cup Series rival to be punished by the sport's authorities over a wreck this weekend in Chicago.

Ross Chastain had been squeezed into the barriers in Turn 1 at a caution restart and appeared to take it personally, driving into Logano at the next corner and spinning the No. 22 car.

Logano was seen confronting the No. 1 car driver after the race, and told Fox Sports' Bob Pockrass that Chastain had admitted wrecking him deliberately, calling for a fine to be levied by NASCAR.

It wasn't the first time this year the reigning Cup Series champion has been critical of Chastain's driving, saying after Martinsville in late March that the Coca-Cola 600 winner 'races like a jackass every week'.

Logano: NASCAR should fine Ross Chastain

"He admitted he wrecked me on purpose," Logano complained. "He admitted it, which means he should get fined if he admittedly wrecked someone on purpose. That's not okay."

When told that Chastain didn't appear to know who started the incident which sent him bumping into the tyres in Turn 1, Logano replied: "Typical Ross, he just sees red and does dumb stuff. That's all. That's twice this year on road courses I've been tossed by Ross. I'm over it."

Logano was less measured in the immediate aftermath of the wreck, saying on his team radio: "“Ross better get the f***ing information right before he goes and wrecks somebody. And there’s f***ing six cars behind me wrecking into me, and then he destroys me from four back. That motherf***er.”

In a small twist of fate, the pair ended up racing each other at the end of the race for a spot in the top 10, with Chastain coming out on top and Logano finishing 11th.
