NASCAR driver Ty Dillon used Denny Hamlin's own words against him on Saturday night following his success at Atlanta.

With the NASCAR Cup Series' In-Season Challenge having gotten underway in the Quaker State 400, Dillon and Hamlin were drawn against each other in the first round.

And, whilst many expected Hamlin to progress, Dillon was in fact the driver to do so, with the Kaulig Racing driver finishing eighth in Saturday night's race, whilst Hamlin was classified as 31st.

Hamlin is well known for using a certain 'I beat your favorite driver' phrase to taunt the crowd after winning races, and Dillon decided to use it himself when talking to the media post-race.

"To all of you Denny [Hamlin] fans out there, I just knocked your favorite driver out," the Kaulig Racing said.

Of course, Hamlin's elimination from the In-Season Challenge was hardly any fault of his own, with the No. 11 having been caught up in a huge wreck on lap 70 that caught up almost half of the field.

Hamlin was down in the midfield when he got spun on the backstretch, with a domino effect of collisions ensuing as a result.

Speaking on the incident, Hamlin told FOX Sports: "Some zigged, some zagged, and we all ended up crashed,"

"I was on the bumper of the 42. It looked like whoever he was on the bumper of and whoever he was on the bumper of, we weren't all perfectly aligned and obviously it started a chain reaction there.

"Then I got into the wall and then came across the track and got clobbered."

Hamlin added: " I have to kind of go back and look, but what I kind of feel like it was is that just it was normal speedway pushing,"

"Just not everyone was perfectly aligned and and these are the kind of wrecks that you usually have."
