Danica Patrick reveals what she loved and hated about NASCAR

Danica Patrick has revealed the things that she loved and hated about NASCAR, having spent six years racing in the stock car racing series.

Patrick raced full-time in the NASCAR Cup Series between 2012-2017, becoming the first female racer to secure a pole position in the sport at the 2013 Daytona 500, and beating Janet Guthrie's record for the most top-ten finishes by a woman in the Cup Series back in 2015.

The American has since gone on to become a pundit in IndyCar, NASCAR, and F1, with her multi-faceted racing career allowing her to provide great insight and expertise.

Now, Patrick has been speaking about how 'fun' it was to race in NASCAR when speaking to current Cup Series star Ty Dillon's wife, Haley, on her podcast.

"What did I love? I mean the racing was fun because it changed a lot," Patrick explained on Dillon's Believe in the Good podcast.

"The tires would go off, the track would change, you could dial the car in, there was a lot of passing. I just felt like when you were good, it was really fun. You did a lot of passing, that’s always a good sign.

"So I enjoyed the racing, and the people. There’s a lot of great people. Just so many great people and good humans so I really liked that part about NASCAR."

Patrick reveals schedule demands

While all of those positives likely led to such a long racing career for the now 43-year-old, Patrick did also speak about how the demands of the schedule were one of the drawbacks of competing in the series.

That and the fact that such a schedule means that even when you are dominating, you are losing more often than you win.

"What I don’t [like]...the schedule’s relentless," Patrick continued. "It’s so nice to not care so much about every little thing all the time, like, who gives a s**t about the one practice, or the one qualifying, or even the one race, there’s so many of them, but I did.

"It’s just stressful and there’s only one person who wins every weekend, only one person who’s quickest in every session, every qualifying, and it’s usually not yourself.

"Even the one who wins the most amount of races in the season, what was it [Kyle] Larson won 11 one year. That’s 11 out of 38.

"Even if you win the most that’s ever been won, you still lose more than you win by a landslide. So it’s just a lot of frustration. I don’t miss that."
