Verstappen “all over the place” in Australia qualifying

Max Verstappen has revealed he was "all over the place" during qualifying for the Australian Grand Prix.

Verstappen, who won the last race in Saudi Arabia, locked up at the penultimate corner when on the way to a daunting target on his first flying lap in Q3 before posting a lap good enough for only second behind Charles Leclerc.

Leclerc ended three-tenths faster than the reigning world champion and asked how he felt after his final run, Verstappen replied: “Not good. I didn’t really feel good in the car the whole weekend so far.

"I think there has not been one lap where I felt confident, so a bit of a struggle.

“Of course, second is still a good result but [I am] just not feeling that great to go to the limit. We will try to analyse it."

The battle for the top spot has been a battle between Ferrari and Red Bull so far this season with Leclerc and Verstappen each winning a race.

Addressing his race prospects, Verstappen added: “Probably in the race pace everything stabilises a bit.

"But for me, this weekend so far has been all over the place. Of course, I am happy to be second but as a team, we want more.”
