Leclerc warns of “interesting” upgrades coming for Ferrari

Charles Leclerc has warned Ferrari's rivals the team is to add "interesting" upgrades across upcoming races.

The Scuderia has moved into title contention having got on top of F1's new regulations for this year, hitting the ground running in pre-season testing.

Leclerc took victories in the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix and in Australia, whilst a second-placed finish in Saudi Arabia sees him sitting comfortably at the top of the drivers' standings with a 34-point lead over Mercedes driver George Russell.

But it is Red Bull who is Ferrari's closest challenger performance-wise and would be much closer in the championship had it not been for a spate of retirements.

With Ferrari keen to stay ahead of the game, Leclerc said: “We have a few things that are quite interesting that will come in the next few races.

“Hopefully this will help us to get the upper hand, but it's very, very close so every little difference, every little update that we bring to the car, can make the difference. We'll push one hundred per cent.“

Despite the early signs of promise, however, the Monégasque driver is not allowing himself to get carried away and added: “It’s still pretty early to think about the championship.

“[We will] just focus on ourselves, try to maximise the package and I think [the next race at] Imola will probably be a better track for our car.”
