Russell banking on Hamilton teamwork to "prevail" at Mercedes
George Russell has claimed the team that 'works best together will prevail' in 2022 as F1 adapts to radically changing technical regulations.
F1 cars will look almost unrecognisable from the current generation of cars next year with the jagged aerodynamic devices largely removed to create a sleek, smooth aerodynamic surface.
Conceding the changes mean there is no way of predicting the constructors' order for 2022 ahead of his move from Williams to Mercedes, Russell put a large emphasis on the importance of teamwork in his first campaign alongside Lewis Hamilton.
"There is no guarantee who is going to have the fastest car when you hit the ground in the first test but I think it is whoever works best together as a team who will prevail at the end of the season so we will work together to do that," said Russell.
"It is going to be down to us both to push the team forward and feedback where the weaknesses of the car is to try and accelerate that improvement."
In his three-year stay at Williams, Russell has helped the team begin its recovery from the back of the grid back towards the tail of the midfield.
After scoring his first points for the team in Hungary this year, the score coming at the 48th attempt, the 23-year-old backed this up immediately with a podium in the rained-off Belgian GP.
Looking ahead to joining up with Hamilton, Russell added: "Next year, with this new regulation change, there are going to be so many updates and improvements to work on throughout the whole season and I think we are all going to have to come together as a team."
