Mazepin clarifies Mexico nightclub 'kicked out' rumours
Haas driver Nikita Mazepin has cleared up rumours claiming he had been kicked out of a nightclub in Mexico following Sunday's grand prix.
A video emerged on social media showing Mazepin embroiled in an argument with a member of staff, with the suggestion aired he was being ejected.
But Mazepin has insisted that was far from the case and instead he was trying to obtain access for a team member who had been refused entry.
“The situation from my side is very clear and definitely nobody was kicked out,” said Mazepin.
“I was upset because one of my engineers was leaving, so I invited everybody from the team to see me and one of the members wasn’t let in, unfortunately.
“I cleared it up. It took about three, four minutes and everybody was in and actually, it was a very good party. So we stayed for a few hours.”
Shedding additional light on the matter, team principal Guenther Steiner said: “I was made aware of this video. It was more like an argument with one of the security guys than a fight.
"A fight normally…when we fight, it normally looks different so this was more like a verbal argument about what happens.
"I haven’t spoken with him yet because I haven’t seen him but I think it was more like he couldn’t get access somewhere and just tried to make his point.”
Suggesting Mazepin's previous reputation went before him, Steiner added: "First of all, everything that is done, whoever does it, it is immediately filmed by somebody.
"Then Nikita, I think he has a reputation and it has even played up. So it isn’t made any easier for him.”
