Williams sign American Sargeant to junior programme
American F3 driver Logan Sargeant has joined the Williams Driver Academy.
Williams, competing in its so-called second home race of the year in the United States Grand Prix this weekend, have taken on the American after two impressive years in the F1 support series.
Sargeant narrowly missed out on the championship in 2020, finishing third for PREMA before moving to Charouz for this campaign, finishing seventh in the standings with a victory to his name at the final round in Sochi.
As an Academy Driver, Sargeant will work in the simulator and help with the development with the new 2022 car in order to integrate with the team as a whole during his time.
The move comes at a time where talk of an American F1 driver is rife, following the success of the Netflix 'Drive to Survive' series and the emergence of young IndyCar talent Colton Herta.
“I am delighted to be joining the Williams Racing Driver Academy," said Sargeant.
"It’s a team with not only a fantastic history, but a great track record of bringing young talent into Formula 1. I am really excited to begin working with the team and can’t wait to hit the ground running.”
Williams CEO Jost Capito added: “I am incredibly pleased to welcome Logan to the Williams Racing Driver Academy.
"He’s demonstrated his talent in F3, consistently delivering strong results in an extremely competitive field.
"I’m proud that Williams will play a part in supporting the progression and growth of another talented young driver.”
