Mercedes replace power unit for both Hamilton and Bottas

Mercedes has swapped out the power unit in the cars of both Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas ahead of the rest of the Dutch Grand Prix weekend.

The team state that was as planned, although Hamilton's system has been returned to High Performance Powertrains at Brixworth given its issue in second practice.

On Hamilton's fourth lap of FP2, as teams and drivers attempted to maximise running given the time lost in the opening session after a problem with the Mercedes PU in Sebastian Vettel's Aston Martin, Hamilton reported a "loss of power".

The seven-time champion was immediately told to stop the car, doing so at the turn-eight Mastersbocht right-hander, to the delight of the thousands of Max Verstappen fans as the grandstands roared with approval.

It was later reported the problem was related to abnormal oil pressure. The exact issue will be diagnosed at HPP.

Hamilton's PU was the oldest in the pool, with the second of the three allowed per season now being utilised for qualifying and the race at Zandvoort.
