Leclerc - “Hard to feel ok” after Monaco curse strikes again
Charles Leclerc was left despondent after a failure in his Ferrari forced him to miss the Monaco Grand Prix.
Ferrari’s mechanics had to repair Leclerc’s car before Sunday’s race after the Monegasque driver crashed in the closing seconds of qualifying but a problem was discovered on his out-lap to the grid pre-race, taking away his chance to start on pole.
After his home race curse struck again, Leclerc said: “In the garage, it was very, very difficult to feel ok, but I guess now I am getting used to this feeling here, unfortunately. I’ve never finished a race here, this year I didn’t start from pole, so it’s a difficult one to take.
“I also feel for the team. The mechanics did such a hard job to check everything yesterday and they were finally a bit happy this morning to see that everything seemed fine and all the parts were fine. Then this happened.”
On what the specific issue was, Leclerc added: “We need to check still. I am pretty sure it is connected to my crash yesterday, but we will try to understand from where it is coming from exactly.
“I wouldn’t speak too much because I am not aware of everything but what I know is that apparently, it is not coming from the gearbox and more coming from the rear left of the car.
“Whether it is correlated to the crash or not this will have to be seen from the investigation after the race, it’s still early days to speak.”
