Furious Tsunoda poses blunt question to AlphaTauri after qualifying disaster
AlphaTauri driver Yuki Tsunoda has questioned whether he has been provided with the same tools as team-mate Pierre Gasly after falling in Q1 at the Spanish Grand Prix.
Tsunoda was four-tenths adrift of the Frenchman in the first session as he missed out on Q2 for the second time this year, leaving him to start from 16th on the grid and an angry outburst over the radio as he shouted: "I can't f***ing believe this car!"
When asked by Sky Sports F1 if he knew what had happened, Tsunoda said: "I don't know. It is always different feedback compared to my team-mate. At times, it is the opposite.
"I have a bit of a question if it is the same car... of course, it is the same but you cannot tell why the car is so different. Maybe it is just the driving style but I don't know why I am struggling this much."
Ahead of his final run, Tsunoda was seen overtaking Charles Leclerc into turn five to gain track position but his aggressiveness raised concerns whether the Japanese rookie had overheated his tyres ahead of his lap.
"I was not pushing too hard on the out-lap, it was just as normal," he responded.
"The tyre temperature was spot on before the lap. I just feel from my side that the cars were quite slow compared to my car, especially the out-lap.
"I don't know why they were slow but they were slower than me. My team set up the tyre but I don't know. It is not the place I want to fight. I really struggled to get into Q2."
