Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff believes Formula 1 must "look at everything" to improve the show after a dull season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Despite Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes again comfortably taking both the drivers' and constructors' titles, the season produced exciting racing in the midfield, with tracks not normally on the calendar providing some of the best action.

The season finale, however, sadly provided a forgettable conclusion. Wolff remarked: "The number of messages I got during the race with the sleeping emoji was the most ever. What can we do?

“I think we need to look at everything. I think it is very difficult to follow in the wake in Abu Dhabi."

Adding that the Yas Marina Circuit is "a fantastic venue" with an "infrastructure like no other" Wolff conceded the problems of the 2020 race came as no surprise.

"As we saw with [Fernando] Alonso and [Vitaly] Petrov [in 2010] it’s just so difficult to overtake when you have a slower car in front of you," added Wolff.

The venue has a total of six different configurations, although only the currently used layout holds an FIA Grade 1 certificate.

Wolff has suggested an alternative route could produce better racing. He said: “I think maybe it’s worth looking at the configuration.

"It’s not my business but maybe we could look at a track configuration that would make it a little bit more interesting for overtaking perhaps. But again, it’s not up to me.”
