Alonso's 2018 schedule is 'impossible'

Sergio Perez believes Fernando Alonso's 2018 schedule will be "impossible" to handle. Having competed in the Indianapolis 500 last year, McLaren star Alonso is taking on a season in the World Endurance Championship alongside Formula 1 as he goes in search of the 'triple crown'.

Alonso will compete in the Le Mans 24 Hours for Toyota, as well as other rounds of WEC in 2018. He suffered brake problems and finished 38th overall at the Daytona 24 Hours earlier this year on his sportscar debut.

Graham Hill is the only driver in history to have won the Monaco Grand Prix, Indy 500 and Le Mans - Alonso has targeted matching the British great.

Force India racer Sergio Perez, however, believes Alonso may have bitten more than he can chew in 2018.

"That's a really hectic programme," Perez told El Mundo Deportivo.

"With how busy we are, not only with races but also the simulator and everything else that we have to do, I think it's impossible to do.

"You would have to find the perfect compromise with your calendar to achieve it, but I don't think you can do two seasons at once.

"Right now we have 21 races which requires a lot of commitment, so at this point in my career I would not consider it."
