Alonso: Drivers treating F1 cars like 'rental cars'

Fernando Alonso has slammed the treatment which his McLaren has received at points during the season, including the United States Grand Prix on Sunday, saying that some of the drivers are treating their vehicles like a "rental car", but not necessarily on purpose.

The Spaniard has just three races remaining in his Formula 1 career having decided to focus on other motorsport disciplines in 2019, and his fourth-last in Austin on Sunday was prematurely cut short in just the first lap after a collision with Lance Stroll.

Alonso has bemoaned the misjudgments which are being made, of which he has been a victim of more than once.

"[There] was a lot of action into Turn 4, which is normally a corner where there should not be too much action," Alonso said.

"Three cars, I think, went into the corner together and the result was well-known -- one of the guys will end up in the wall, and it was me. It's a misjudging of distances and speed which is quite strange to see.

"It's always the same story, it just keeps happening.

"At the start, people are trying to bump everyone else, the same as when you have a rental car. No-one does it on purpose, but today they played bowling with my car again, like they did in Spa."

Stroll was subsequently fined for his part in the incident at the Circuit of the Americas.
