Vettel: My tough times aren't over
Sebastian Vettel bemoaned that his 'tough times that aren't over', after his USA Grand Prix was marred by a collision with Daniel Ricciardo on the opening which left him having to battle through the grid to eventually secure fourth spot.
The German collided with Ricciardo and spun around, the third such incident involving the German this season, though he was able to recover and cut his way through the pack, eventually squeezing past Valtteri Bottas to get into fourth spot.
He was behind team-mate Kimi Raikkonen, Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton, though the world championship race will continue for another week, to Mexico, courtesy of this result.
But Vettel cut a forlorn figure when speaking to Sky Sports F1 after the race, stating that he was happy for the team's race victory, but was far from pleased with his own display.
He said: "[I have] mixed emotions. Really happy for Kimi, not happy with my race.
"I think I must have been in his [Ricciardo's] blind spot, and the corner kept tightening and I couldn't get out of it. It was a big loss for me."
When asked if, without the incient, Ferrari could have acheived a one-two on the podium, he added: "I don't know. If you have two cars at the front, maybe, but for sure we could have done better than fourth."
But Vettel reserved praise for Raikkonen winning for the first time in 113 races, saying: "I'm very happy for him [Kimi]. It has been tough weeks for the team, but my tough times don't seem to be over yet."
"It should have been a better day."
The world championship could now be decided in Mexico in one week's time.
