McLaren unveils new supercar called the 'Senna'

Manufacturer McLaren has been showing off images of their latest project, a supercar named after legendary F1 driver Ayrton Senna, as thery look to create the most sophisticated road-legal car in the world, with particular focus on its track performance.

The technical specifications of the car are mind-boggling, with 4.0 litre twin-turbocharged V8 engines, 789 bhp, along with a host of other advanced innovations never before seen in a design of this type.

McLaren has been granted permission from the Senna family to use the name of the driver for the car, as stated in McLaren's preview announcement: "A significant contribution will be donated to the Instituto Ayrton Senna (IAS), a non-profit organisation providing education for more than 1.6 million unprivileged youngsters in Brazil.

"The IAS is presided over by Viviane Senna, sister of Ayrton and mother of racing driver and McLaren ambassador Bruno Senna.”

There are some details of the car that remain unknown at this stage - particularly the retail price. But it is believed that only 500 will be produced from McLaren's production centre in Woking, and fans of the concept have been urged to post their interest online, with no official launch date confirmed as of yet.
