Schumacher continues winning run

Mick Schumacher stretched his winning streak in European Formula 3 to five with two more wins at the Red Bull Ring on Sunday. The German is now favourite to secure the F3 title ahead of much-fancied Red Bull junior Dan Ticktum, having opened up a 49-point lead with one event remaining.

Support for the son of seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher has swelled in recent weeks as he has picked up remarkable form towards the end of the F3 season.

Victory in the second race of the meet at Spielberg was Schumacher's fifth in a row after a whitewash at the Nurburgring and victory in Saturday's race 1.

He could not make it back-to-back clean sweeps, finishing second behind Prema team-mate Robert Shwartzman in the third race.

With eight wins in the past five events, only five drivers have won more European F3 races than Schumacher, current F1 drivers Esteban Ocon, Max Verstappen and Lance Stroll among that group.

Schumacher has been linked with a shock move to Toro Rosso in 2019 recently, although the team are still said to favour Ticktum, despite his inability to accrue enough superlicence points before 2018 is through.

While Schumacher already has the requisite 40 points, Ticktum could be entered in competitions early in 2019 in order to form a likely partnership with Daniil Kvyat in Red Bull's sister team.
