Magnussen: Alonso thinks he's God, I can't wait for him to retire
Kevin Magnussen launched a blistering attack on Fernando Alonso after the pair's hopes of making the top-10 shootout at the Italian Grand Prix went up in smoke in a turn-one squabble at Monza. Magnussen said Alonso considers himself "God", while expressing a desire to see him leave Formula 1 for good.
The pair found themselves on the same patch of asphalt in the final part of Q2, Magnussen moving ahead of the slow-moving McLaren as he prepared for his final flying lap.
A good result was clearly on the cards for the Dane - his Haas teammate Romain Grosjean qualified sixth - but his lap was ruined on the first corner as Alonso came up through his slipstream and onto the inside line of the chicane.

Both cars almost came to a standstill, with Alonso reporting over team radio "Magnussen wants to race" - but the Haas man had an entirely different take, which he expressed in astonishing fashion.
"He thought he could have the perfect slipstream and overtake me and then gain," Magnussen said.
"I'm not going to let him past me and sacrifice my own lap. No way. He thinks he's God, but no way.
"He came to me after qualifying and laughed to my face. Just outright disrespectful.
"I can't wait for him to retire.
"He talks about his laps being divine and what not, he literally thinks he's a God. It's quite amusing."
Magnussen is never too far away from controversy and gave a graphic view on his willingness to cede position to Alonso when recounting the ins and outs of the incident.
"We were kind of six or eight cars in a bit of a group, and at the exit of Ascari, Fernando was warming his brakes I think, not going fast," he said.
I'm going fast so I just cruised past him. But then for some reason he tries to accelerate and get close to me instead of creating a gap like everyone else is doing.
"Obviously he got a perfect slipstream and thought he could overtake into Turn 1, but I'd rather hang myself."
