Ricciardo expects to avoid Canada penalty

Daniel Ricciardo expects to avoid grid penalties at the Canadian Grand Prix, despite his team having previously suggested that he could be hit with a 10-place drop. Ricciardo won the Monaco Grand Prix while battling the effects of an MGU-K failure, however it appears that the part will be salvageable.

It had been reported between races that Ricciardo would not need a costly change of engine parts, however, Adrian Newey was quoted this week delivering a downbeat forecast for the Australian.

Previewing the Montreal race in Thursday, Ricciardo said that he was "currently" unaware of any impending punishment, although suggested that one could be on the cards next time out in France.

Ricciardo's first F1 win came in Canada in 2014, while victory in Monaco a fortnight ago moved the Australian into third pace in the drivers' standings behind Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton.
