Lance Stroll to hook up with Jackie Chan in Daytona
Lance Stroll is set to join fellow Formula One driver Fernando Alonso in appearing at the Rolex 24 in January and will race with the Jackie Chan DC racing squad who are coming off an impressive victory at Le Mans in June
This will not be Stroll's first visit to Daytona. The Canadian made his sportscar debut back in 2016 in the track in Florida and notched up seven hours of driving in the 24-hour race, eventually finished fifth alongside team-mates Brendon Hartley, Andy Priaulx and Alex Wurz. The team ultimately missed out on a podium place due to an overheated engine which scuppered their chances late in the race.
With the Jackie Chan DC Racing squad, Stroll will be driving an Oreca 07 LMP2 car with Felix Rosenqvist, Robin Frijns and Daniel Juncadella. Rosenqvist is currently leading the rankings in Formula E and has previously partnered Stroll in Formula Three back in 2015.
Jackie Chan DC Racing was established by former Asian Le Mans champion David Cheng back in 2015, and it was later on in that year when he would meet Chinese film actor, Jackie Chan. The Rush Hour star had a previous interest in racing which reportedly started after he viewed Steve McQueen's picture, Le Mans, and it was from there the duo decided to partner up to form a racing team.
Stroll's Formula One season will end this Sunday at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, and speaking to the media recently he gave himself a favourable score out of 10 his campaign overall.
"Looking at the season, I have to say there have been very challenging times. Especially at the beginning," he told Auto Motor und Sport.
"There were also some great times. I was on the podium. I was on the front row.
"There is always room for improvement. So it's not 10. I would say a strong 8.5. We had a really good season, scoring a lot of points. A 9 would be too good though."
