F1 champion Rosberg launches driver academy
Nico Rosberg is on the hunt for the next Formula 1 champion, after announcing he is opening an academy to find the emerging stars of motorsport. The 2016 F1 title-winner made the announcement at the karting track where his and Lewis Hamilton's famed rivalry began in their childhood.
special day for me. launched the Rosberg Young Driver Academy with Dino. Big thx to our partner @Petronasbrands ???????? hope we can find/support a future champ together pic.twitter.com/aWx1I7Njll — Nico Rosberg (@nico_rosberg) April 22, 2018
Rosberg has kept his ties in the water in F1 since his stunning retirement immediately after beating Hamilton to the title in 2016.
As well as analysing the sport on television, Rosberg formed part of Robert Kubica's management as the Pole sought a route back into F1.
Kubica has since earned a test and reserve role with Williams and Rosberg has now stepped away.
But he remains keen to guide the way into the upper echelons of motorsport, turning his attention to the next generation, by founding the Nico Rosberg Young Driver Academy, with Dino Chiesa, the man who tutored both Rosberg and Hamilton in their formative years.
