Massa poised to join Formula E
Felipe Massa, who is set to retire from Formula One at the end of the season following the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, will join Formula E 'sooner rather than later' according to the organisation's founder, Alejandro Agag, who confirmed that talks are ongoing.
Last week Massa endured a very emotional final Grand Prix in his hometown of Sao Paolo at the Interlagos circuit in the penultimate race of the season, with the upcoming race in Abu Dhabi set to be his last.
There has been plenty of speculation as to what Massa's next move will be at the age of 36-years-old, but according to Agag the most likely destination will be Formula E.
“Felipe is a very desired driver and a supremely talented racer,” the CEO of FE told e-racing365. “For Season Five having Felipe with us is very likely but it is not in my hands, it is up to the teams.
“He would be a fantastic addition to the championship but for Season Four it is maybe too late as F1 runs until end of November.
“Who knows, something could happen sooner rather than later, even this coming season if circumstances allow and we would love him to be here with us.”
Massa actually announced his retirement last year only to be brought back into the action to help out Williams following Valtteri Bottas' departure to Mercedes. However, before the Brazil GP he confirmed that this time the exit was certain.
"As everyone knows, after announcing my retirement from Formula One last year, I agreed to return this season to help Williams when the call came," he said in a Williams statement.
"I have now enjoyed four great years with the team, but my career in Formula One will finally come to an end this season. Once more, I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has supported me.
"I take so many great memories with me as I prepare for my final two races in Brazil and Abu Dhabi, and although they will be emotional, I am looking forward to ending on a high note and preparing for a new chapter in my career."
