Kimi Raikkonen says that Formula 1 would not be racing in Australia this weekend if the decision had been left to the teams.

The Formula 1 season begins on Sunday with the Australian Grand Prix, but with the world reeling in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, Raikkonen has questioned whether pressing ahead with the race was the smart play.

"I don't know if it's the right thing that we are here. Probably not," said Raikkonen.

"But it's not up to us, it's not our decision. I think if it would be purely all the teams' decision we probably wouldn't be here."

However, the situation remains that F1 is in Australia and the race, at present, is going ahead.

"I heard there are some people getting ill in the paddock, nobody knows what the story is on that. It's not just for us, it's also for [the fans]. We'll see how things work out."
