F1 urged to review qualifying rules after recent red-flag chaos

Sergio Perez has called upon F1 and the FIA to "review the rules" following a chaotic qualifying session recently at Imola.

The hour to set the grid was moved from Saturday to Friday evening to accommodate the first sprint of the year, and in wet conditions, five red flags were triggered.

Lando Norris was one driver who forced a stoppage at the end of Q3. The Briton was able to keep his third place on the grid for the 100km event as none of his rivals were able to set a faster time.

In some domestic series, triggering a red flag during a session can see a driver's fastest time deleted, leading to Perez calling for a similar action to be taken in F1.

"It was pretty intense with all the red flags and I feel like we should review the rules," said the Mexican.

"I feel like if a driver makes a mistake and causes a red flag he should be penalised somehow.

"I think when we go to other tracks like Monaco or places like that, it can actually be an advantage. You can have a mistake and still be on pole so it will be nice to review.

"I know Lando did a mistake, I was one of the drivers that did it. Just going forward, I think it would be good to make sure that if you make a mistake you pay for it."
