Hamilton could join Ferrari, says Croft

Formula 1 expert and television pundit David Croft believes that Lewis Hamilton still has one big move left in his career before he retires, and has tipped the five-time world champion to join Ferrari when his current contract with Mercedes expires.

Hamilton has been linked with Ferrari before, most recently last year before he signed an extension on his deal with the Silver Arrows through to 2020.

That contract ends just before Liberty Media will introduce new regulations within F1, and Croft thinks that if Ferrari can prove themselves to be the top team around the time of the changes, Hamilton could join them.

“Wouldn’t it be nice to see Hamilton as a Ferrari driver,” Croft asked Express Sport.

“It can happen so don’t ever count that one out. I am sure Lewis Hamilton thought about that once or twice as well.

“If Ferrari have a car to win a Championship I think it could happen.”

Mercedes are going for their sixth constructor's and driver's championship double in 2019, but Croft expects the competition to be stiffer this year, especially due to the promising pre-season of Red Bull.

“Red Bull, Max Verstappen is getting better and better as the years go on,” he continued.

Pierre Gasly is his team-mate and crucially, Honda engines powering for the first time – a new partnership there. They are in the Championship party as well.

“There are three team, six drivers all capable of winning a race at every single Grand Prix.

“That is what fans want to see; variety and competition.”
