Verstappen and Ocon won't be brought face to face in Abu Dhabi

Max Verstappen and Esteban Ocon will not be called before Formula 1 officials to clear the air further after their Brazilian Grand Prix clash, with FIA race director Charlie Whiting claiming the matter is deemed to have been closed after the Interlagos weekend.

Ocon's attempts to unlap himself in last weekend's race ended disastrously for both drivers, but were especially costly for Verstappen, who went from cruising to a certain win to finishing second behind Lewis Hamilton.

The Red Bull driver immediately showed his fury, brandishing a one-fingered salute to Ocon from his cockpit and a confrontation between the two in the weighing room post-race landed Verstappen a public service order.

After meeting with stewards in Interlagos, Verstappen and Ocon shook hands publicly to suggest the matter is closed and Whiting says the matter will not be revisited when F1 reconvenes in Abu Dhabi.

"We've done that already, I think the stewards have made it clear," Whiting said.

"Let's be realistic, it's happened a number of times in the past: we all know that.

"In terms of the actual incident, it didn't look that serious but any physical contact I don't think can be condoned."

Verstappen's boss Christian Horner caused a stir with his immediate reaction, claiming that Ocon was "lucky" that Verstappen did not get more physical with him, but the comments did not warrant being looked into.

"It's not a great thing to hear but in the heat of the moment," said Whiting. "And having lost a race that they would probably have won, I can understand comments like that."
