F1 Standings: McLaren driver suffers championship blow as penalty sees star lose Silverstone race

Oscar Piastri, Lando Norris, McLaren, Saudi Arabia, 2025

The latest F1 2025 standings are in following the conclusion of Sunday's British Grand Prix, and they do not make for great reading if you are Oscar Piastri.

The McLaren star looked in control of the race at Silverstone before being hit with a 10-second time penalty for driving erratically under safety car conditions, essentially costing him the race win.

After serving his punishment during a pit stop, Lando Norris, who, in fairness, had closed the gap to his teammate down to under three seconds by the time Piastri pitted, inherited the race lead, and the Brit did not look back, taking his first ever victory at his home race.

This was a huge moment for the drivers' championship, with Norris now just eight points behind Piastri in the chase for the title.

Just two races ago, Piastri had a 22-point advantage over his teammate, and Norris will hope that he can eat away at, or even surpass the Aussie, following the Belgian Grand Prix later this month.

Elsewhere at Silverstone, all eyes were on Nico Hulkenberg and his heroics for Kick Sauber, with the German driver achieving his maiden podium in F1.

Hulkenberg's achievement is not only massive for him personally, but also for his team, who have rocketed up the constructors' standings as a result of the 15 points he added to their tally on Sunday.

Sauber now sit sixth, ahead of Racing Bulls, Aston Martin, Haas and Alpine, with Hulkenberg himself sitting in an impressive ninth in the drivers' standings.

Ahead of their transition to Audi for 2026, the team certainly looks to be on the ascent.

With that said, let's take a look at the latest F1 drivers' and constructors' standings in full following Sunday's race at Silverstone!
