F1 championship winners Max Verstappen and Mercedes have been nominated for the Laureus World Sports Awards.
Both Mercedes and Verstappen have been recognised for the parts they played in a thrilling 2021 season that saw the Red Bull driver clinch title success on the last lap of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
It is the first time Verstappen has been nominated for the 'World Sportsman of the Year' award that has previously been claimed by Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel and twice by Michael Schumacher.
Mercedes' nomination is the team's eighth nod in succession although it only took home the trophy in 2018 for its successes in the previous F1 campaign.
Brawn GP and Renault are the only other teams to have won the category, with Red Bull nominated four times from 2011-14.
Verstappen has been nominated alongside Novak Djokovic [tennis], Caeleb Dressel [swimming], Eliud Kipchoge [long-distance running], Robert Lewandowski [football] and retiring NFL star Tom Brady.
