VIDEO: Rosberg reacts to Hamilton's fifth title win

Nico Rosberg reconfirmed his belief that former Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton can go on to match or even better Michael Schumacher's all-time record of seven Formula 1 world drivers' title after Hamilton secured his fifth crown at the weekend's Mexican Grand Prix.

A fourth-place finish in Mexico was enough for Hamilton to seal his fourth title in five years – only Rosberg has beaten him across a season in the V6 Hybrid era.

After sparring with Rosberg from 2014-2016, Sebastian Vettel has provided the opposition for Hamilton over the past two seasons, but the resurgent Ferrari team have fallen short.

Hamilton won six of the seven races between the German and Japanese Grands Prix, the kind of surge that Rosberg knows only too well about.

Although Mercedes' dominance has been tested this year, Rosberg sees no reason why the team – and Hamilton – won't continue to reap rewards.

Hamilton's fifth title puts him level with the great Juan Manuel Fangio and only Schumacher sits above on the all-time list.

The Briton has 71 race wins to his name, just 20 grand prix victories shy of another Schumacher benchmark, while his 81 pole positions are already a haul better than anyone in the sport's history.
