Ricciardo: Liberty must give F1 drivers a say

Daniel Ricciardo has echoed calls for Formula 1 drivers to be consulted about changes made to the sport. The Red Bull driver has issued similarly criticism to Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel over the proposed aerodynamic changes planned for the 2019 season.

A dull season-opening Australian Grand Prix which featured just five overtakes jolted F1 into action I an attempt to bolster on-track action, and changes to front wing regulations are seen as the cure to facilitate better racing next year.

However, the move has not gone down well, Red Bull in particular have vented anger towards Ferrari and Mercedes for forcing through rules which they believe will suit the front-runners.

Interestingly, both Vettel and Hamilton spoke out before the Spanish Grand Prix, the German saying it was "comical" to see F1 changing aerodynamic rules yet again, while Hamilton lamented the revelation that cars are likely to be slower next year.

And Ricciardo is similarly frustrated that drivers do not have a say in the competition that they star in.

"Yeah absolutely. I have no idea what they have changed," he said at the Circuit de Catalunya. "I heard something that they have already agreed on some aerodynamic rules.

"I am not trying to be funny, but I genuinely have no idea what they are doing or what they have changed or decided. I don't know if that is up to us to... regardless we should not have to ask can you involve us?

"We should be involved because we are the ones driving. We are not engineers but we are the ones that know what is going on in a racing situation. So for sure we should be consulted about it and at least our opinion should be heard.

"When us drivers talk about things like this, that is the problem. A lot of us drivers might agree but we know our teams won't agree, and that is where it is hard. But I think the racing and this side of stuff that we are involved in first hand, we should be consulted at least."
