Kyle Larson makes shocking NASCAR admission amid tough Cup Series run

NASCAR Cup Series star Kyle Larson has made a shock admission regarding his 2025 season, admitting he is going through the toughest spell of his career.

The Hendrick Motorsports driver's campaign got underway strongly in the opening months of the season, taking three victories and securing eight top-five finishes in the opening 12 races.

However, Larson and the No. 5 team have seen an uncharacteristic downturn in form since the Coca Cola 600 in May, which just so happened to have coincided with his attempt at the 'Double', which was unsuccessful.

After a wreck in Charlotte, Larson has only achieved one finish in the top five over the last seven races, with multiple finishes outside the top 15 in that time.

Speaking ahead of this weekend's action at Dover Motor Speedway, Larson suggested it was the most challenging spell of his career, revealing he cannot recall a tougher two months.

“It’s as tough of a two months that I can remember having, even before [joining] Hendrick,” Larson told a group of reporters at Dover.

Larson reflects on Hendrick Motorsports rut

The Hendrick Motorsports star continued: “It’s been a challenge to stay motivated through it all, but we’re competitors and we love competing and being better.

"I think that’s what has kept us positive."

Larson added: “It’s definitely the toughest stretch when you look at results, but even car speed, where we rank, I don’t know where we rank, but I can’t imagine it’s at the top.”

The 2021 champion went on to add that poor results one week have often had a negative effect on the following weekend, making it hard for the team to stop the rot and start picking up the sort of results that they are more accustomed to.

However, the Hendrick Motorsports star does believe he and his crew will come out stronger on the other side.

“It’s all snowballed into the next week and it’s been tough to get out of the rut,” Larson explained.

“I think through it all, I do believe we will come out the other side even strong. That’s what every team hopes, anyways.

“I’m glad that we’re here at Dover. You never know how the weekend is going to turn out, but statistically it’s been a great track for us.”

Larson and the No. 5 crew went on to have a better weekend at Dover, finishing Sunday's Cup Series race in fourth spot.
