NASCAR confirm Ross Chastain penalty verdict after Joey Logano wreck

NASCAR has confirmed that there are no penalties following this weekend's action in Chicago, meaning Trackhouse Racing star Ross Chastain will not be punished despite appearing to intentionally wreck Joey Logano.

Chastain and Logano came together on track multiple times during the Grant Park 165, with the latter having been squeezed into the barrier on one restart after contact from the former.

Chastain was not happy about it and sought revenge immediately, driving into Logano at the very next corner and spinning the No. 22 around.

Post-race, both drivers were involved in a heated exchange outside of their cars, with Chastain reportedly admitting that he had crashed into his rival deliberately.

As a result, many were anticipating that Chastain could be punished for his part in the incident, but now, Fox Sports' Bob Pockrass has revealed that NASCAR has confirmed there will be no penalties issued after the Chicago weekend, meaning the Trackhouse Racing star has escaped punishment.

Joey Logano called for Ross Chastain punishment

Logano certainly won't be happy with NASCAR's decision not to penalize the Trackhouse Racing driver, with the Team Penske star having called for his rival to be punished when speaking to the media in Chicago.

"He admitted he wrecked me on purpose," Logano explained.

"He admitted it, which means he should get fined if he admittedly wrecked someone on purpose. That’s not okay."

“Typical Ross," the Team Penske star continued. "He just sees red and does dumb stuff. That’s all.

"That’s twice this year on road courses at the end of these things I’ve been cost by Ross. Just over it.”

It is not as though there has not been precedent for intentionally wrecking another driver, either, with Austin Cindric having been punished back in March for doing so to Austin Dillon at COTA.

On that occasion, under Sections 4.4 B&D: NASCAR Member Code of Conduct Penalty Options and Guidelines, Cindric was docked 50 driver points and fined $50,000.
