Richard Childress Racing have responded swiftly to the one-race ban issued to Austin Hill following Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series blockbuster in Indianapolis.

Hill has paid a hefty price for the ugly incident which saw his No. 21 Chevrolet bump Aric Almirola and his Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota into the wall on lap 91 of 100.

The smart money was immediately on NASCAR coming down hard on Hill, who was held in the pits for five laps for rough driving. Afterwards Almirola described the contact as “definitely intentional”.

Hill then did not appear to help his cause by hurling expletives at NASCAR on team radio when the penalty was announced. He claimed the contact with Almirola was not intentional.

One-race suspension for Hill

On Tuesday the hammer did come down, with Hill receiving a one-race ban, ruling him out of this weekend’s action in Iowa. He will also forfeit his 21 playoff points and any he gains for the rest of the regular season if given a waiver to compete in the playoffs, which he will now need as he is set to miss a race for a non-medical reason.

Austin Dillon will replace Hill in the No. 21 car at Iowa Speedway this weekend.

Once the suspension came down, the next question was whether Hill’s Richard Childress Racing team would appeal the ban. We got the answer early on Tuesday evening.

Appeal decision confirmed

In an official statement, the team said: “Richard Childress Racing will not appeal the penalty NASCAR issued to the No. 21 team following the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. We remain focused on winning a championship with Austin Hill in 2025.

“Austin Dillon will race the No. 21 Chevrolet at Iowa Speedway.”

Hill currently sits fifth in the Xfinity Series regular season standings, 100 points behind leader Justin Allgaier.
